The heat storage and temperature rise of the dermis are higher than those of the epidermis. The penetration depth of thulium laser is deeper, and the skin thermal diffusion effect is obvious. What are the Features of Thulium Laser?
1. Dermal-Epidermal Effect
Thulium laser is a long-pulse infrared laser. The target tissue mainly absorbed by the skin is water, with an absorption rate of 130. Since the water content of the dermis is higher than that of the epidermis, most of the energy of thulium laser passes through the epidermis during skin treatment. The energy is mainly absorbed by the dermis and heated up. The epidermis forms an almost “translucent window” in the transmission of thulium laser. Its penetration depth is about 200-400μm. If the energy is high, the epidermis will also produce slight thermal damage vaporization and fine scabs.
Mainly acts on the dermis and belongs to the true-epidermal skin effect. The water absorption coefficient is low. Since the water content of the epidermis is lower than that of the dermis, thulium lasers are less likely to damage the epidermal tissue. They will penetrate and reach the dermis, and there will be areas of tissue protein denaturation and thermal coagulation at a certain depth and range.

2. Non-ablative Treatment
